Mandatory requisites for visa application
- Current valid passport or any travel document to the same power
- You are required to have an offer from a university or college before furthering the process of visa application
- It is imperative to receive an offer from a licensed education sponsor authorized by the Government of the UK
- Your approved university or college will give you a Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies (CAS)
- Should be able to converse, read, write and understand English
Other requisites
- You are to produce proof of having sufficient funds to support your study and living.
- An Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) certificate if needed
- Sanction of a parent or legal guardian if you are under 18
- If under 18, you are required to submit proof of your relationship with your parent or guardian

If you are under the age of 18 years, you are required to submit written permission from both parents and your legal guardian
The written consent should include permission for:
- your visa application
- your living and other arrangements in the UK
- your travel to the UK
You will be needed to submit a legal document (birth certificate) that bears the names of your parents.
Types of Student Visas, Validity and Cost
Child Student visa –
- A visa of this type is issued to students between the ages of 4 to 17 to pursue schooling in the UK.
- As an Indian student, you should start the application process 6 months before your course. You can expect your visa to be processed within 3 weeks.
- Students under the age of 16 can stay back in the UK for 4 months beyond course length (6 years plus 4 months)
- If you are a student of age 16 to 17 you can stay back in the UK for 4 months beyond course length ( 3 years plus 4 months)
- You can extend your Child Student Visa if you wish to continue studying in the UK.
- The cost of a Child Student visa is £348
Tier 4 (General) student visas
- If you are 16 years or older you can apply for a student visa to pursue studying in the UK
- As an Indian student, you should start the application process 6 months before your course. You can expect your visa to be processed within 3 weeks.
- If you are a student of age 18 and above pursuing studies at a degree level, you can stay back in the UK for up to 5 years
- If the course is pursued if below degree level you can stay back in the UK for up to 2 years.
- The cost of Tier 4 (General) student visa is £348
Short term study visas
- If you wish to pursue a short English language course in the UK you may apply for a Short term study visa.
- With a Short term study visa, you can stay in the UK for an added period of 30 days; the stay cannot exceed 11 months.
- A Short term study visa will cost you £186.
